In the land of the bigheads?

Our new accommodation, Harbour View, is in the village of Mangawhai Heads, at the base of the area called Northland, about 120k north of Auckland. Some pronounce it 'Mangafy' (remember that wh = f in this part of the world), so I keep thinking "magnify heads" and imagining that all the residents have huge heads!! In reality, it's a lovely subtropical seaside town, quiet now in the low season.

Our cottage is wonderful: three bedrooms, and a large open living/kitchen space under a high peaked octagonal roof. The best part is the wraparound deck, with its view over the estuary to the ocean. Gorgeous! The downside is that there is no phone connection! So if you don't hear from us as often as usual, don't worry--we'll try to visit the local internet cafe at least once a week to stay in touch via email and the blog.

We face east again, so, more sunrises on the way. Here are a few pics from our first few days...
