Morning has broken

I rose even earlier this morning, hoping to catch the sunrise over the ocean, and when I saw this deep pink panorama, I thought I was in for a splendid show.

However, moment by moment the pink glow faded and the blue twilight returned. I realized that heavy clouds on the horizon were going to block the sun as it rose, and resigned myself to disappointment. A few moments later, though, there was another period of brief glory as Mayor Island, usually invisible from shore, appeared, barely silhouetted against a gilt-edged cloud mass. I call it "the isle of the blessed" because it is only occasionally visible--very mysterious and seemingly unreachable.

I abandoned the sunrise, made tea,and settled into a deck chair with my book, but about a 1/2 hour later, the sun struggled above the clouds and suddenly the whole scene turned to molten silver. Worth a bit of lost sleep!
